Iceland Gold Coast Figure Skating Club conducts a variety of development programs for our skaters. Our beginner skate school classes teach the fundamental skills of balance, coordination, posture and edges. The club and it’s coaches are committed to developing the skater as a whole. Teaching them independence, resilience and inspiring the individual to be the best version of themselves, on and off the ice.
Our advanced extension classes are targeted towards the skater who has shown considerable dedication to their skating and has begun to master more advanced skills. Our coaches tailor these classes accordingly and begin to focus on jumping technique and spin positions. The basic skill set learned in Skate School allow our coaches to develop higher quality skating skills in the form of edges, turns and footwork.
The club is inclusive of all skaters independent of age and skill level. Our club members range from Skate School level through to Recreational Members, Adult Skaters and Senior level competitors.
Iceland Gold Coast Figure Skating Club hosts the Gold Coast Challenge competition which is open to all Queensland Figure Skating Clubs. It is run using the International Judging System and offers a chance for skaters to get in front of judges and an audience early in their skating season.
Last year’s Gold Coast Challenge included an opportunity for the competitors to receive feedback from high level and well respected ISA and ISU Officials. It is the club’s vision that the Gold Coast Challenge will continue to utilise our officials in a way that benefits the skater’s competitive career in the sport.
In addition to the Gold Coast Challenge, the club also runs the Iceland Gold Coast Figure Skating Championships every September for our Club and State representatives. For those who aren’t yet competing, there are opportunities throughout the year to show off your skills in our Winter and Summer Showcases as well as Skate School Competitions.
